Covid-19 salgını döneminde uzaktan eğitimle yapılan yabancı dil öğretiminin öğretmenlerce değerlendirilmesi

Covid-19 salgını döneminde uzaktan eğitimle yapılan yabancı dil öğretiminin öğretmenlerce değerlendirilmesi Dilman, Hakan COVID-19 salgını döneminde uzaktan eğitimle yapılan yabancı dil öğretiminin öğretmenlerce değerlendirilmesi başlıklı bu çalışma İstanbul ilinde kamu ve özel eğitim kurumlarında görev yapan 24 yabancı dil öğretmeninin gönüllü katılımıyla yapılmıştır.

Çalışmanın amacı uzaktan eğitim ile yapılan yabancı dil öğretimi sürecinin genel değerlendirmesi, karşılaşılan zorluklar ve sürecin iyileştirilmesi ile ilgili öğretmenlerin görüşlerinin öğrenilmesidir. Çalışma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olgubilim ilkeleri ile düzenlenmiş ve öğretmenler ile yüz yüze mülakat yapılarak veriler derlenmiştir.

Bu dönemde yabancı dil öğretimi yapan öğretmenlerin değerlendirmeleri uzaktan eğitimin yabancı dil öğretimi için uygun olup olmadığı, öğrencilerin derse katılımları, bu süreçte yapılan ölçme ve değerlendirmenin güvenilirliği, ders işlenişi, konu kapsam, öğrenme ortamı ve teknik alt yapı hususlarında öne çıkmaktadır.

Çalışma, uzaktan eğitimin yabancı dil öğretiminin doğal yapısını bozduğu, öğrencilerin sözlü dil kullanım becerilerinin ölçümlemesinin yapılamadığı, bu dönemde yapılan sınavların güvenirliliğinin tartışmalı olduğu, öğretmenlerin çalışma saatlerinin belirsizleştiği, konu kapsamın daha da genişlediği, materyal talebinin arttığı, ev ortamından eğitimin sürdürülmesinin diğer ev ahalisinin de yaşamlarını olumsuz etkilediği, öğrencilerin öğrenme sorumluluklarını yerine getirmedikleri, velilerin bu dönemde daha etkin rol oynaması gerektiği gibi sonuçları ortaya koymuştur.

Elde edilen sonuçların eğitim konularında karar vericilere ve uygulayıcıları ile eğitimin diğer paydaşlarına uzaktan eğitimle yabancı dil öğretiminin gelecekteki planlanmasına, icrasına, yapılacak öğretimin ölçümlenmesine, uzaktan eğitime uygun materyal hazırlanmasına, öğrenci ve aile sorumluklarının geliştirilmesine katkıda bulunacağı değerlendirilmektedir.;

This study, entitled “Teachers’ assessment of foreign language teaching done during the Covid-19 outbreak with distance education”, was conducted with 24 volunteer foreign language teachers working in public and private education institutions in İstanbul. The aim of the study is to learn the opinions of teachers about the general evaluation of the foreign language teaching with distance education, the difficulties encountered and the proposals for improvement of the process. The study was organized with phenomenological principles of the qualitative research methods, and the data were collected through face-to-face interviews with teachers. Points focus on whether distance education is suitable for foreign language teaching, the participation of students in the course, the reliability of the measurement and evaluation made in the process, the teaching process, the subject scope, the learning environment and the technical infrastructure.

The study showed that distance education disrupted the nature of the foreign language teaching, students’ oral language skills could not be measured, the reliability of the exams was questionable, working hours of the teachers become uncertain, the scope of the course was expanded, continued education in the home affected other family members negatively, students did not fulfill their learning responsibilities, and parents should have more active role in this period. It is considered that the results of the study will contribute to decision makers and practitioners and other stakeholders of education in the future planning of foreign language teaching with the distance education, its implementation, the measurement of the teaching to be done, the preparation of materials suitable for distance education, and the development of student and family responsibilities.
